New Affordable Housing Subdivision Built in Sanford |
Seminole County and Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka proudly celebrated the opening of Leadership Point this month, a new six-home housing subdivision in Sanford. The housing project was made possible with an initial investment from Seminole County with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
With assistance from Seminole County Community Services Department, eligible residents were entered into the Homeownership Program and screened to ensure they could successfully purchase the homes.
Upon sale of the homes, the proceeds will be reimbursed to the County and reinvested to serve as a revolving line of credit to incentivize developers to build more homes. The ultimate goal is to consistently create and expand new affordable housing options within the community.
Seminole County Vice-Chair Andria Herr, Habitat for Humanity Chief Executive Officer Penny Seater, and Habitat for Humanity Board Chairman and Property Appraiser David Johnson were all present to welcome the first-time homebuyers into their new homes. |

Penny Sales Tax Funds Connectivity |
The Interstate 4 (I-4) pedestrian overpass in Lake Mary enhances safety and accessibility by connecting the Cross Seminole and Seminole Wekiva Trails. The County’s Public Works Department oversees 78 bridge structures, and inspects pedestrian bridges every four years. Recent restoration of the overpass included testing the bridge’s cable systems and re-painting metal components to avoid corrosion so it can be enjoyed by all for many years to come.
These efforts are funded by the County’s One Cent Infrastructure Sales Tax, approved by voters in 2014. This 10-year levy on the sale of consumer goods to visitors, residents, and businesses has funded more than 80% of Seminole County’s infrastructure. Learn more about its benefits at the link below. |

Community Celebrates Renaming of Nature Center |
Seminole County leaders celebrated the newly-renamed Ed and Imogene Yarborough Nature Center, the County’s home for environmental education. The name honors the late Imogene Yarborough, a passionate advocate for education, agriculture, and the environment.
Seminole County Chairman Jay Zembower and Commissioner Bob Dallari unveiled the sign, handcrafted by volunteer Mark Williams. Members of the Yarborough family attended to recognize Imogene and the family's significant contributions to Seminole County.
Residents of all ages are invited to visit the Nature Center, located within the Geneva Wilderness Area, for an open house, event, program, or camp. |
