Penny Sales Tax Benefits Historic Midway Community |
The Midway Drainage Improvement Project aims to address long-standing flooding concerns in the historic Midway community. During the recently completed basin study, residents shared their experiences and concerns, and helped Seminole County identify specific locations prone to flooding. To transform this community and construct much needed drainage improvements, the County is currently working with property owners to purchase easements.
The massive drainage project is anticipated to cost more than $26 million. The project is funded in part by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and in part by the County’s One Cent Infrastructure Sales Tax, known as the Penny Sales Tax. The Penny Sales Tax is levied on the sale of consumer goods to visitors, residents, and businesses, and has funded more than 80% of Seminole County’s infrastructure.

Leaf It Out! |
Don’t place your yard waste in plastic bags. Plastic bags damage machinery and contaminate the mulch used at the Landfill. Instead, use paper bags, reusable bins, or tied bundles for curbside yard waste.
This Hurricane Season, don't wait until a storm is on its way to maintain your yard. Prepare throughout the summer by trimming dead vegetation, clearing debris, and cleaning gutters and downspouts. Remove or cut back trees or branches that could fall on your home or vehicle. |

Fireworks can still burn internally after the sparks have stopped. Follow these tips to prevent fireworks from re-igniting and potentially starting a fire.
-
Once fireworks have been used, soak them in water for a minimum of 24 hours.
-
After 24 hours, remove the fireworks and double wrap them into plastic bags.
-
Place the double wrapped fireworks in the trash.
