Penny Sales Tax Fortifies Tuskawilla Road |
A recently completed project secured the banks of Howell Creek beneath Tuskawilla Road, preventing erosion. Fast-moving water can remove sediment from the base of the bridge, which can compromise its structural integrity over time. By adding a layer of rock and stone to the banks and bed of the creek, the project prevents sediment from being washed away, preserving this Seminole County roadway.
Less than a mile away, Howell Creek crosses under Tuskawilla Road again, where another project is underway to control erosion and stabilize the culvert channeling water under the roadway. This project is expected to reach completion this summer.
These projects are funded by Seminole County's One Cent Infrastructure Sales Tax. Known as the Penny Sales Tax, this 10-year levy on the sale of consumer goods to visitors, residents, and businesses has funded more than 80% of Seminole County’s infrastructure. |

Seminole County Animal Services Celebrates Kitten Shower |
Seminole County Animal Services recently celebrated a record-breaking success during their Kitten Shower. With the hope of finding loving homes for kittens during peak kitten season, the event exceeded expectations with a total of 46 adoptions.
With lines out the door and most adoptions complete before noon, 37 kittens, four cats, and five dogs all went home with their forever families. In addition, the shelter received an abundance of essential supplies, including food, litter, and toy donations. Several generous monetary donations also helped sponsor the adoption fees of 14 kittens.
