July is Park & Recreation Month in Seminole County |

Seminole County’s parks are more than just places — they’re where community happens. This July, we invite you to celebrate Park & Recreation Month by getting out and enjoying the trails, waterways, and green spaces that make our County special, all while collecting vintage style posters highlighting Seminole County’s beauty.
“Parks help us stretch our legs and strengthen our families,” said Seminole County Chairman Jay Zembower. “This Poster Challenge shows how a simple summer event can bring people outdoors, connect us to nature, and keep our parks thriving.”

Back by popular demand, the Park Poster Challenge returns! Visit each featured location in July, scan the QR code on-site, and pick up a free, limited-edition art poster — one per park, while supplies last.

Seminole County Fire Department Graduates New Recruits |
|
On Friday, June 13, 2025, Seminole County Fire Department (SCFD) proudly celebrated the graduation of its latest class of recruits from the robust 10-week training academy. Consisting of 20 members, Class 25-01 is a testament to homegrown talent, with more than half of the graduates having grown up in Seminole County.
Held at Action Church in Winter Park, the graduation ceremony featured remarks from Fire Chief Matt Kinley, followed by an inspiring keynote address delivered by retired SCFD Fire Chief Leeanna Mims. Seminole County's 20 newest firefighters are now assigned to various stations throughout the County, with several pairs heading to firehouses in Oviedo, Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Lake Mary, Sanford, Apopka, and Winter Springs.
The Department's next bi-annual class, Class 25-02, is set to begin training this October. |

Seminole County Animal Services Celebrates Senior Adoption Success |

Seminole County Animal Services recently held a graduation of their own for the senior dogs in residence at the shelter. This “Senior Graduation” adoption event highlighted the benefits and personality found in older dogs and encouraged potential adopters to consider giving them a loving home. As an incentive, all adoption fees were sponsored for dogs over six years old.
Senior pets, particularly dogs, often experience extended shelter stays. Events like the "Senior Graduation" are vital in bringing attention to animals who need it most. While any adoption would have been considered a success, the event celebrated a total of six, formerly overlooked senior dogs finding their forever homes. |

Summer Reading at the Library |
|
School is out and summer reading is on! The Seminole County Summer Reading Challenge, themed “Color Our World,” has officially begun and children, teens, and adults are all invited to participate. Readers across all age groups who join the challenge can earn raffle tickets, win weekly prizes, and have a chance to win a grand prize at the end of summer.
Adults and teens who participate can also win gift cards or Book Bucks—a redeemable token that can be used to select a book to take home and keep. |

Hurricane Preparedness Tip |
|
Hurricane season is here, and Seminole County’s Solid Waste Division is advising residents to empty their old fuel canisters to prepare in advance. Fuel typically used in generators has a shelf life of approximately three months.
Residents with leftover fuel from the last storm season can drop it off for free and safe disposal at the Central Transfer Station’s Household Hazardous Waste tunnel, helping to avoid a potential future influx of drop-offs.

Color Our World Squeegee Art |
|
Unleash your creativity with a burst of color at the North Branch Library’s Squeegee Art event! Experience the fun of this vibrant art trend by using a squeegee to spread paint into unique, decorative patterns—no paintbrush required.
Each participant will create two pieces of art: one to practice basic techniques and another to fully express their artistic style. This free event is for adults and requires registration.
