Meet Scout: Seminole County’s New Way to Move

Launching this October, Scout is Seminole County’s new on-demand public transportation service. Riders can request a trip through the Ride Freebee app or by phone, making it easy to get to work, school, SunRail, or anywhere in between.

Scout will operate with two types of vehicles. Hybrid vans will offer wheelchair accessibility, and fully electric vehicles will serve as the primary fleet. Wrapped in bold, modern designs, they’re easy to spot and even easier to love.

All current LYNX bus routes in Seminole County will remain in place through January 2026. After that, fixed-route service will be reduced to reflect demand and the rising cost of operations. Scout offers a more flexible, cost-effective alternative that expands access across the County.

The service will cover all of Seminole County except for the rural boundary area, with five operating zones and additional vehicles supporting travel between zones. Service hours will be 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Service zones are still being finalized, and the Board of County Commissioners will determine fare rates in August. In the meantime, follow @ScoutSeminoleFL on Facebook, Instagram, and X for updates, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes looks as Scout gets ready to launch.

Scout Ambassadors are also hitting the streets this month to connect with local businesses and residents. Look for them along U.S. 17-92, S.R. 46, and S.R. 434, or email questions to scout@seminolecountyfl.gov.

Follow Traffic Safety Tips as Back-to-School Season Begins

As Seminole County students head back to class on August 11, it's important to prioritize traffic safety. With school zones active, buses back on the roads, and children walking or biking to school, drivers must stay alert and cautious.

Slow Down in School Zones: Speed limits in school zones are strictly enforced. Always reduce speed and watch for crossing guards, students, and flashing lights.

Stop for Buses: Florida law requires drivers to stop when a school bus extends its stop sign. Whether behind a bus or approaching from the opposite direction on a two-lane road, never try to pass a stopped school bus.

Pedestrian Safety: Be on the lookout for students crossing streets or walking along sidewalks, especially near schools and neighborhoods. Yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks.

Seminole County urges all residents to be extra cautious during the busy back-to-school season. Let’s work together to keep our children and community safe.

Seminole County and CareerSource Guide Future Leaders

In partnership with CareerSource Central Florida, Seminole County hosted sessions for their Public Sector Academy. The dynamic four-week summer program is designed to educate and inspire high school students about careers in public service.

More than 20 students took part in hands-on experiences and field trips to several key departments, including Environmental Services’ Solid Waste Division, Public Works, Emergency Management, Economic Development & Tourism, and the Seminole County Fire Department. Students also visited other local employers and businesses across the County.

Through hands-on learning and direct engagement with public sector professionals, students gained an understanding of how County services operate. County Commissioners Bob Dallari, Lee Constantine, Amy Lockhart, and Andria Herr attended the program’s graduation ceremony to celebrate the students' accomplishments and show their support. 

Commissioners Honor High School Softball Stars

Seminole County Board of County Commissioners proudly recognized three local high school softball teams for their outstanding season and participation in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State Softball Championship: The Geneva School, Winter Springs High School, and Hagerty High School.

Both The Geneva School and Hagerty High School finished as state runners-up in their respective classifications, while Winter Springs High School earned the title of Class 5A State Champions.

This May marked the first time Seminole County hosted the FHSAA State Softball Championship at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood. Commissioner Bob Dallari threw out the ceremonial first pitch for Hagerty High School.

Congratulations to these student athletes for their excellent sportsmanship in representing Seminole County.
