Seminole County Honors Legendary Broadcaster Lee Corso |
|
There was a standing ovation inside the Board of County Commission Chambers on Tuesday as Commissioners proclaimed August 26, 2025, Lee Corso Day in recognition of the legendary broadcaster’s upcoming retirement.
Corso, a Seminole County resident, became a household name through his decades on ESPN’s College GameDay and for his years as a head coach. As one of the show’s original analysts, he entertained millions with his trademark headgear picks and his catchphrase, “Not so fast, my friend.”
Commissioner Lee Constantine read the proclamation that recognized Corso “as a tremendous ambassador for college football, for his alma mater, and for his beloved Seminole County, often speaking glowingly of his community and even reporting directly from his sunny Lake Mary home.”
Corso thanked the community in a heartfelt speech, saying the recognition was especially meaningful coming from his neighbors. |

“I want you to know I really do appreciate this, especially from my hometown, people that I love so very much,” Corso added, “There’s no place like home, and Seminole County is my home.”
Corso’s final appearance on College GameDay is Saturday, August 30. When asked how he hopes to be remembered as a host, Corso responded, “somebody that if you watched the television, it made you smile.” |

Scout Unveils Fare Structure Ahead of October Launch |
|
Seminole County’s new on-demand public transportation service, Scout, is preparing for its October debut with the release of its zone-based fare system.
Fares will be determined by where each trip begins and ends. If a ride stays within one of Scout’s five zones—Monroe, Lake Mary, Howell, Brantley, or Econ—passengers will pay the lowest fare. Costs increase when trips cross into additional zones.
Discounts will be available for seniors, students, individuals with disabilities, and income-eligible riders. Additional discounts will also apply for trips that begin and end at a SunRail station in Seminole County.
Scout Fare Structure for Choice Riders (before discounts):
- Same Zone: $4
- One Zone Transfer: $7
- Two Zone Transfer: $10
- Three Zone Transfer: $14
- Peak-Hour Surcharge: Applies during the busiest travel times
- Discounts: 50% off for seniors, students, and income-eligible riders with fares capped for certain income levels
- App Booking Savings: Riders who book through the Ride Freebee app receive additional discounts
In the meantime, Scout Ambassadors are out in the community sharing information with residents and businesses ahead of Scout’s launch.

Public Invited to Review East County Drainage Basin Study Results |
|
Seminole County Public Works is hosting a public meeting to share the results of the East County Basin Studies.
A drainage basin (also called a watershed) is an area of land where all the streams and rainfall drain into the same common body of water —such as a river, lake, or ocean. Studying these basins, known as a basin study, provides critical information for managing water supply, maintaining water quality, and identifying flood risks. These studies also guide effective flood control solutions and long-term stormwater management strategies.
The East County Basin Studies are divided into three groups: Group A (Soldiers Creek, Gee Creek, and Little Lake Howell), Group B (Howell Creek), and Group C (Lake Jesup).
Seminole County is engaging with the community to share the results of the East County Basin Studies, including the identified project concepts for each drainage basin at an upcoming public meeting.

School Supply Drive Delivers Success |
|
Seminole County Libraries recently led a school supply drive, encouraging residents to donate new, unused items ranging from pocket folders to student scissors and crayons.
Donated supplies were delivered Thursday to Tools 4 Seminole Schools, a shop where teachers can access essential classroom items for free. These donations go a long way in supporting underserved students while also easing the financial burden on teachers. |

Animal Services Wraps Up Clear the Shelters Campaign |
|
Seminole County Animal Services is wrapping up its nationwide campaign, Clear the Shelters, this Sunday, August 31.
At the close of this national adoption event, more than 130 cats and 100 dogs have found homes this month, surpassing the shelter’s 2024 numbers. Since the launch of Clear the Shelters, the campaign has helped nearly 1.2 million pets and raised more than $5 million to support shelters and rescues nationwide.
