Citizen’s Academy Six-Event Series Begins Saturday |
|
|
|
Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Join Seminole County as we kick off our 2026 Citizen’s Academy at the Southeast Regional Water Supply Facility, 3304 Dike Road in Winter Park, on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Take a tour of the Water Treatment Plant, see specialized equipment used by the Utilities team and Mosquito Control, and learn how you can help protect our water.
If you can’t make it Saturday, there are five other free, family-friendly events to enjoy through May 9.

Rolling Hills Community Park Project Moves Forward |
|
Seminole County held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 11, for Phase I of the Rolling Hills Community Park & Roadway Improvements Project in Longwood, marking an exciting milestone for the community. County Commissioners were joined by the County Manager, Parks & Recreation staff, Public Works staff, project team members, and community members to recognize the start of this transformative project.
Phase I will convert the former Rolling Hills Golf Course into a vibrant public park and include roadway improvements along North Street. The project is funded in part by the County’s One Cent Infrastructure Sales Tax, commonly known as the Penny Sales Tax.

Red Bug Lake Park Celebrates 50th Anniversary |
|
From racing to bounce houses, tennis matches and more, there was something for just about everyone at Red Bug Lake Park as the community came out to celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, April 11.
Dozens of people took part in the 5K run, followed by face painting and bounce houses for families. Just down the way, the tennis courts were filled with players participating in a 70s-themed Round Robin to celebrate the park’s 1976 opening. |

Seminole County Breaks Ground on New Fire Station 25 in Casselberry |
|
Seminole County Commissioners, alongside Fire Chief Matt Kinley and Casselberry city leaders, recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Seminole County Fire Department Fire Station 25, a modern facility designed to improve emergency response in the Casselberry and Fern Park areas.
The new station, located near SR 436 at Wilshire Drive next to the Casselberry Police Department, will replace the current 1975-era station on Red Bug Lake Road and nearly double in size.
Fire Station 25 is one of the busiest in Seminole County, responding to more than 5,400 calls annually, with demand increasing more than 35% over the past decade. The $12.2 million station is expected to open in 2027. |

Clothing Swap Success |
|
Seminole County’s first-ever Clothing Swap event, held in partnership with the City of Casselberry, was a success, with residents attending to recycle their old clothing by trading and swapping items to give them a second life.
In total, 320 items were “swapped” by participants, helping divert more than 600 pounds of textiles from the landfill. |

Big Win for Pups at the Plex |
|
UCF Softball’s “Pups at the Plex” event was a big win both on and off the field! Eight dogs from Seminole County Animal Services joined for pre-game adoptions—and four of them found their forever homes.
The excitement didn’t stop there. Knightro and softball team members stopped by to spend some quality time with the pups, and Seminole County Animal Services was featured on the UCF Pregame Show on ESPN+. |

Library Explorers – Celebrate Earth Day & Recycling Truck Visit |
|
Kids ages 5 and older are invited to join Seminole County Libraries for a special Library Explorers program all about recycling. Young explorers will learn how materials such as cardboard, plastic, and aluminum can be recycled and made into new products, then head outside to explore a real recycling truck.

Parents and caregivers can learn vital safety skills to help prevent drowning at the Seminole H.E.A.R.T. Workshop: ABC’s of Drowning Prevention. The workshop will provide participants with practical safety strategies, cover the importance of multiple layers of protection, and leave them feeling more confident protecting young children around water.
