Seminole County’s 2026 Citizen’s Academy is halfway through, and there’s still time to join. This free, family-friendly series gives residents a closer look at how County departments serve the community through interactive tours, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences. |

The next event is Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at Seminole County’s newest and largest Fire Station 39 at 5639 1st Street, Sanford. Residents can take part in a Fire Fitness Challenge, learn hands-only CPR, and see some of the newest equipment. Additional events featuring Development Services and Parks & Recreation follow next week.

A Tribute to Service: Veterans Honored at Annual Luncheon |
|
More than 400 veterans and their guests attended Seminole County’s annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, April 30. The complimentary luncheon honored the men and women in our community who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
This year’s theme, “Honoring the Korean War,” recognized the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the 1950–1953 conflict, often referred to as the “Forgotten War.” Their resilience and dedication remain a lasting part of American history.
During the program, Sergeant Bryant Ortiz was recognized as Veteran of the Year by the Board of County Commissioners for his continued service to the nation and Seminole County. |

Public Works Department Achieves Accreditation |
|
Seminole County Public Works recently earned full accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA), marking a major achievement for the department.
The milestone was celebrated at the April 28 Board of County Commissioners meeting, where the APWA Regional Director presented the official letter of accreditation and a commemorative plaque to staff. In making history, Seminole County Public Works achieved accreditation in less than one year—one of the fastest transitions from application to accreditation for a public works agency.
This recognition from the internationally respected organization reflects the Department’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure and services while maintaining accountability, efficiency, and innovation for residents every day. |

CareerSource Opens New Community Hub |
|
CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) has opened a new Community Hub inside the Altamonte Springs City Library. This marks its third hub in Seminole County and expands access to career coaching and job opportunities for residents.
The opening event welcomed community leaders, including Seminole County Board of County Commissioners Vice Chair Amy Lockhart and Commissioner Lee Constantine.
Visit the hub at 281 Maitland Ave., Altamonte Springs, to meet with a career consultant. |

Cat Café Comes to Central Branch Library |
|
Seminole County Animal Services and the Seminole County Library are partnering for their very first Cat Café event.
Join us at the Central Branch Library Community Room Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, for a family-friendly afternoon featuring adoptable cats and kittens in a relaxed, welcoming environment designed to help them find their forever homes. Younger attendees can also enjoy cat-themed crafts and activities.
This event is free. Pre-registration is required, and all adoptions will be coordinated through Seminole County Animal Services. |

Lake Mary Storm Prep Live |
|
The Seminole County Office of Emergency Management is partnering with the City of Lake Mary to host Storm Prep Live, a hurricane preparedness event to help residents get ready for the upcoming storm season. This family-friendly event will offer guests an opportunity to hear from local experts, enjoy Touch-A-Truck with emergency vehicles, watch live demonstrations on hurricane safety, and experience a hurricane wind simulator.
