Citizen’s Academy Wraps Up Six-Event Series |
|
Seminole County is celebrating the success of the 2026 Citizen’s Academy after wrapping up six events.
From tours of the County’s newest and largest fire station to touch-a-truck opportunities and the first-ever Citizen’s Academy event focused on Development Services; hundreds of residents came out to learn more about the services and people that help keep Seminole County running every day.
The free, family-friendly series gave residents a closer look at departments across the County, including Environmental Services, Utilities, Public Works, Emergency Management, Fire, Development Services and Parks & Recreation.

SCFD Earns National “Gold Standard” Reaccreditation |
|
The Seminole County Fire Department (SCFD) has once again earned national recognition for its world-class emergency care after receiving reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), often referred to as the industry’s “Gold Standard.”
The Department earned a perfect score during the review process, marking its fifth CAAS reaccreditation since first becoming accredited in 2011. The designation reflects SCFD’s commitment to delivering high-quality emergency medical care through rigorous standards related to patient care, operations, leadership, and performance.
“This recognition reflects the dedication and professionalism of our firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and support staff who serve our community every day,” said Seminole County Fire Chief Matt Kinley. “Maintaining these high standards helps ensure our residents continue receiving exceptional emergency services when they need them most.”
The Department is also the only fire department in Florida to hold four major public safety accreditations and recognitions and is one of the only fire departments in the nation with this combination of distinctions, including an ISO Class 1 rating, Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) accreditation, Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) accreditation, and Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) designation from the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED). |

Seminole County Expands Narcan Access at Airport |
|
Seminole County Community Health has partnered with Orlando Sanford International Airport to install publicly accessible Narcan stations throughout the airport as part of ongoing efforts to address the opioid epidemic and improve public safety.
With more than three million passengers traveling through annually, officials say having Narcan readily available allows for faster response in the event of an overdose—often before emergency medical personnel arrive.
Narcan boxes have been installed alongside AEDs to ensure quick access in emergencies, and airport staff note there have already been instances where rapid deployment helped save lives.
The program is part of a broader County initiative with more than 31 free Narcan distribution sites across Seminole County, funded through grants and opioid settlement dollars rather than taxpayer funding. |

Free Door Alarms for Seminole County Residents |
|
During Water Safety Month in May, the Seminole County Fire Department and Community Health Division are distributing free door alarms to residents.
The alarms, provided by The Wesley Seth Foundation, are designed to help prevent childhood drowning by alerting caregivers when doors leading to pool areas are opened. |

Oxford Road Project Moving Ahead |
|
Work is underway on the New Oxford Road Improvements and Extension Project as crews continue making progress on the new roadway extension connecting Oxford Road to US 17-92. Improvements between Fern Park Boulevard and SR 436 are also taking shape as part of this $41 million transportation project.
Construction began in late 2024 and is currently ahead of schedule, with completion anticipated in fall 2027. Residents can view recent drone footage highlighting progress across the project area at the link below. For project information and updates, visit www.seminolecountyfl.gov/newoxfordroad. |

Summer Reading Kickoff Party |
|
Summer reading is here, and the Seminole County Library system is kicking off the season with special celebrations for kids and families. All five library branches will host Summer Reading kickoff parties featuring crafts, activities, summer reading registration and a free book for everyone who signs up. Prune Like a Pro |
|
Refresh your landscape and learn proper pruning techniques by joining Seminole County Extension Services for a pruning class. Attendees will learn pruning basics and receive a take-home booklet on landscape care and maintenance.
Participants should be prepared to spend time outdoors. Hats, sunscreen and garden gloves are recommended.

Sewing 101 for Teens |
|
Teens can learn the basics of operating a sewing machine during the Central Branch Library’s Sewing 101 program series. Beginning Thursday, June 4, participants will learn foundational sewing skills while creating a coaster project throughout the course.
Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions. Pre-registration is required, along with a $15 materials fee payable to the Friends of the Seminole County Library.
