Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary in Seminole County |
|
Seminole County is proud to unveil the new Seminole 250 Event Guide, a resource for patriotic celebrations, local history, and community events as our nation marks America’s 250th anniversary. Pick up a free copy at locations across Seminole County or explore it online.
The guide offers a look back at local history through a timeline of Seminole County and its cities, highlighting when each community was established and incorporated. It also features America 250 events happening throughout the County, including library programs, historical presentations, ceremonies, and other community activities.
Looking for Fourth of July festivities? The event guide includes parades, fireworks, and special events such as the Sanford Jazz Ensemble's America 250 Tribute and the Geneva Independence Day Parade.
After exploring the guide, put your knowledge to the test with the Seminole 250 Quiz. Participants who complete the quiz will be entered into a drawing to win a commemorative Seminole County America 250 Challenge Coin.
The Seminole 250 initiative is a collaborative effort involving Seminole County, the cities of Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Lake Mary, Longwood, Oviedo, Sanford, and Winter Springs, Seminole County Public Schools, Seminole State College of Florida, Orlando Sanford International Airport, the Seminole Cultural Arts Council, and numerous community and cultural organizations throughout the County. |

Seminole County Holds Full-Scale Special Needs Shelter Exercise |
|
Seminole County recently held its annual Persons with Special Needs Shelter Exercise, bringing together Emergency Management, healthcare professionals, public safety agencies, schools, and community partners to practice shelter operations ahead of hurricane season.
The full-scale exercise tested everything from registration and medical triage to emergency response scenarios, helping ensure staff are prepared to support residents during a disaster.
Residents who require electricity-dependent medical equipment, transportation assistance during evacuations, or additional medical support during emergencies are encouraged to register for Seminole County's Voluntary Medically Enhanced Shelter/Well Check Program.

Solary Canal Improvements Underway |
|
Progress is underway on the De Leon Street/Solary Canal Improvement Project, an important initiative focused on strengthening critical infrastructure. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, Solary Canal experienced severe erosion damage that undermined De Leon Street.
The project is designed to stabilize and reinforce Solary Canal, repairing erosion damage while strengthening the canal’s ability to withstand future storm events. Improvements will also increase the canal’s capacity to convey stormwater, helping water move more efficiently through the area and reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. At the same time, crews are widening De Leon Street to meet County standards.
Once complete, the project will enhance public safety, improve drainage performance, reduce future storm impacts, and create a more resilient infrastructure system that will serve the community for years to come.

Check Your Rain Sensor |
|
With summer rain arriving, residents with automatic irrigation systems are encouraged to check that their rain sensor is working to avoid watering during or after rainfall.
Seminole County offers free irrigation evaluations for Seminole County Utilities customers. During the evaluation, a licensed technician can check your rain sensor to make sure it’s working properly and replace it if needed. They'll also review your timer settings, identify potential leaks or inefficiencies, and recommend adjustments that can reduce water use while maintaining a healthy landscape. |

Household Hazardous Waste Tunnel Updates |
|
As residents prepare for hurricane season, Seminole County is reminding the community about updated gasoline disposal procedures at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Tunnel and Reuse Shop at the Central Transfer Station in Longwood.
As of June 1, all automotive fluids must be poured by a technician. Residents who want their gas cans returned after disposal must visit between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Gasoline dropped off outside those hours will be accepted, but containers will not be returned. |

4-H Project Discovery Day |
|
4-H Project Discovery Day invites youth and their grown-ups to explore the exciting opportunities available through the Seminole County 4-H program. Families interested in getting involved are especially encouraged to attend. The program is ideal for youth ages 6-12 and their families. A parent/caregiver must accompany the child to the workshop.
