Push-In Ceremony Marks Squad 2 Entering Service |
|
The Seminole County Fire Department recently celebrated the arrival of its new Squad 2 with a traditional push-in ceremony, marking another investment in emergency response.
Based at Fire Station 35 in Sanford, Squad 2 carries specialized equipment for hazardous materials incidents, vehicle extrications, confined space rescues, structural collapses, trench rescues, rope rescues, and other complex emergencies. Often described as a "rolling toolbox," the apparatus carries thousands of pieces of equipment to support these missions.
Seminole County Board of County Commissioners Vice Chair Amy Lockhart joined firefighters as they welcomed the new Squad 2 into service. It replaces the previous front-line unit, which will continue serving as a reserve vehicle. Squad 2 responds to more than 1,000 incidents each year, underscoring its critical role in protecting Seminole County residents. |

CareerSource Connects Students with County Careers |
|
In partnership with CareerSource Central Florida, Seminole County welcomed high school students for their annual Public Sector Academy, a summer program introducing careers in local government.
Students visited several County departments, including Seminole County Fire Department, Emergency Management, Public Works, Environmental Services, Economic Development & Tourism, and more. From touring the County landfill and visiting the animal shelter to viewing Public Works equipment, students gained firsthand insight into how County departments serve the community.
County Commissioner Bob Dallari attended the program's graduation ceremony to celebrate the students' accomplishments and show his support, inspiring the next generation of public servants. |

Clearing the Shelters, One Adoption at a Time |

Seminole County Animal Services is proud to participate in NBCUniversal’s Clear the Shelters campaign throughout the month of August to help more pets find loving homes.
This week, WESH 2 News featured Seminole County Animal Services as part of the campaign, showcasing several adoptable pets looking for their forever families. The shelter also hosted its second Kitten Shower of the year, resulting in more than 20 cat adoptions.
Throughout August, Seminole County Animal Services is celebrating Clear the Shelters with $5 adoptions for all pets, creating more opportunities for shelter animals to find their forever homes. |

Water Quality at Work |
|
August is National Water Quality Month, but Seminole County works year-round to protect local waterways.
Each year, County staff conduct BioRecon and Habitat Assessments in local streams alongside routine water testing. By studying aquatic insects, some of which are highly sensitive to pollution, staff can better evaluate stream health and identify signs of a healthy ecosystem.

Summer Reading Success |
|
The Seminole County Library wrapped up another successful Summer Reading Program, with residents of all ages visiting their local branches, taking on reading challenges, and exploring everything the Library has to offer.
This summer, 9,380 people participated in the program, highlighting our community's interest in reading. Whether discovering a new favorite book or participating in library events, readers of all ages made this year's program another success. |

4-H Open House |
|
Youth ages 5-18 and their families are invited to explore opportunities with Seminole County 4-H at the 4-H Open House. Ozobot Challenge for Tweens |

Tweens and their families are invited to an Ozobot Challenge. This program is great for those who are interested in coding. They will learn to program Ozobots to complete actions by using markers and color codes.
